General Info

Formula Sheet - A list of formulae and physical constants used in this course broken down by unit.

Significant Figures Rules - All rules for using significant figures (sigfigs) in calculations.

CDLI - Online course review materials available through CDLI.

Unit 1: Kinematics (10.9%)

Kinematics is all about using mathematics to describe the motion of objects. In this unit we discuss the relationships between the displacement, velocity, and acceleration of objects, and examine how the frame of reference, or perspective, of an observer can affect how objects appear to move.

Extra Review Problems - a much larger set of review problems, covering all topics in this unit.

Kinematics Formula Practice - Practice with doing calculations with kinematics formulae without specific context. Good for practicing solving the mathematical part of problems.

Graphs of Motion - Practice with graphs of one-dimensional motion.

How to Solve a Problem - This is a step-by-step guide on solving problems. There is a specific example given in the context of physics, but these steps are more generally useful in many other contexts like math or chemistry.

Unit 2: Dynamics (26.1%)

Dynamics is the study of why objects move. In this unit we primarily examine how forces, such as friction and gravity, act on an object to affect that object's motion, in particular its acceleration. Later in this unit, we examine the concept of momentum and how it also impacts interactions such as collisions and explosions.

Mid-Year Exam (10%)

Mid-Year Exam Review Sheet - review of units 1 and 2

Old Common Exams - common exams from the old 2204 curriculum; some topics have been changed around.

Unit 3: Work and Energy (22.6%)

Work and Energy make up another set of tools to help physicists describe how and why things move. The law of conservation of energy plays a major role in this unit, involving kinetic energy, gravitational potential energy, and elastic potential energies. The final part of this unit explores a variety of nuclear reactions, including radioactive decay, fission, and fusion reactions.

Periodic Table of Elements - used for nuclear reactions.

Unit 4: Waves (20.4%)

Waves make up an important part of physics. In this unit we analyze the behaviour and properties of sound waves and electromagnetic (light) waves in a variety of different contexts: the speed of sound, the Doppler effect, resonance, Snell's Law of light refraction, and the diffraction of light.
